 Periodic Table of Peace Symbols 22" x 28" The peace symbol surfaced as an emblem for the nuclear disarmament movement after WW II, in 1958 in Britain. The symbol was a most prominent emblem for the 60s and into the 70s, and has experienced resurgence in the last few years. The artist (who still has his own ‘60s pewter peace amulet) scoured the web for symbol images, and matched a chemical symbol to some aspect of each sign. The resulting collage is indeed most peaceful, and provides a very colorful array. There are verbal and visual puns, and a few inside jokes. |
